GRAVE DIGGER Commence Work On New CD, Publish Autobiography
September 3, 2002German power metallers GRAVE DIGGER are currently finishing up pre-production for their forthcoming CD, which will be recorded between October and December at Principal Studios near Muenster, Germany. The Resetti Brothers and GRAVE DIGGER frontman Chris Boltendahl will assume the production duties during the sessions.
According to an official statement, "all music is written and the band is working at the final concept and the lyrics. The concept is a secret but we can tell you that it is the beginning of another interesting trilogy, which will lead the listeners into a world of ... with great classical True Metal and brilliant epic moments. After their last dark and evil output, The Grave Digger, the band will return to their brilliant epic roots from the 90ies."
The as-yet-untitled effort, which will once again feature cover artwork courtesy of Markus Mayer (NIGHTWISH, METALIUM),is tentatively scheduled to be released on May 26th, 2003 through Nuclear Blast Records.
In other news, GRAVE DIGGER will play their first Moscow show ever on November 30th at Luzhniki Small Sport Hall (capacity approx. 4,500). This concert is billed as a "double headline show", with BLAZE taking the opener slot and GRAVE DIGGER playing last.
Also on the GRAVE DIGGER front, the band's much-anticipated autobiography, written by Holger Koch and Chris Boltendahl, will finally surface in mid-October. Featuring an introduction by Götz Kühnemund of Rock Hard magazine, it was co-written by Andreas Schöwe of Metal Hammer and includes a bunch of unreleased photos from Chris' private archives. According to the singer, "it's a very personal look into the development of a band which started in a youth center, destroying guitars and covering their idols, the story of a band which members like to be Metal Gods and their way to the up and downs of the music business."
At first, the book will be made available only in Germany, but plans exist for an English edition to be released next year.
